  A Short-Term Course on - CAD of Electrical Machines with PE Applications    
 
  Venue           : IIT, Delhi

A state of art facility on Computer aided design(CAD) of Electric Machines with special emphasis of Power Electronic(PE) Applications is created in the Electrical Engineering Department of IIT Delhi under NAMPET program funded by the Ministry of IT, Govt. of India. World renowned CAD softwares of Infolytica, Canada (MagNet, Motorsolve) and SPEED Laboratories, UK (SPEED, FLUX, MotorCAD) are installed. This short term course is aimed at training the participants on these softwares and familiarize them on the related fundamental concepts. At the end of the course the participants, drawn from academia and industry will be able to design machines for specific applications in their organizations and enhance their capacity in Research, Design, product development and education. With expanding PE applications Electric Machine designs have undergone sea change and engineers must be equipped to face new challenges in designing Electric Drives and Energy conversion systems including renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The Fifth National Workshop on Power Electronics (NWPE 2009) for Industry-Institute-R&D interaction under the aegis of NaMPET was organized by CDAC Thiruvananthapuram on 22nd - 23rd October 2009. Technology showcase under NaMPET and Green Power were the core theme of NWPE-2009. The lectures and presentations by eminent personalities covered futuristic trends and developments in Power Electronics. 160 participants from various industries, institutes and R&D centers attended the workshop.

Eighteen delegates actively involved in teaching Power Electronics and associated subjects at under-graduate or post-graduate level from various academic institutions participated in this two-day workshop.

  NaMPET Student Thesis Awards 2007    
 
 


One of the aims of NaMPET is to foster the growth of power electronics activity in academic institutions in the country.
As an encouragement to students engaged in final year project work in power electronics, NaMPET has constituted Best Project Thesis Awards.

•Postgraduate thesis awards: Two awards are available for best postgraduate M.E./M. Tech. project thesis. Each award will carry a merit certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 25000/-.

•Undergraduate thesis awards: Two awards are available for best undergraduate B.E./B. Tech. project theses. Each award will carry a merit certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 15000/-.

The faculty for this course had been from the Infineon, Degree Controls, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, IISc-Bangalore, and NID. 47 members from various R&D labs, Industries and Academic Institutions participated in the course.

A Workshop on Simulation of Power Systems and Power Electronics Systems under the aegis of NaMPET was  held at IIT Bombay on 17-21 October. The  objective  of  this  workshop was  to  make  the  participants familiar with SEQUEL, a  public-domain  simulator which can  be used for the simulation of  power systems and power electronics systems. 20 delegates from C-DAC(T), Railways, IITs, IISc, BESU, Anna University participated in the programme. M.B. Patil, Professor, Electrical Engg., IIT Bombay and Mukul C. Chandorkar, Associate Professor, Electrical Engg., IIT Mumbai were the co-ordinators of the workshop.
